Self Love


Our theme for this year is Self Love.  "You have to love yourself. That's the single most powerful thing. Out of that springs: How are you eating? How are you exercising? How are you resting?" ~Nia Peeples

Do you REALLY love yourself? Your gut instinct was to immediately think, "Of course I do!" But when was the last time, if ever, that you truly thought about it? More importantly, when was the last time you did something that showed others that you love yourself?

The people and things in our lives that we love and cherish, we take care of. Are you one of the many who take better care of others than you do yourself? If so, it's time to start showing yourself more love. In the words of Al Green, "Try a little tenderness."

From getting more exercise, to relaxing at the end of a long day with a good book and maybe a long, hot bath, there are lots of little tokens of appreciation—dare I say, LOVE—that you can show yourself.

With February being the unofficial month of love, why not take some time to purposely learn to love yourself? Think about the little things that make you happy. Make a to-do list of those things and get to work. Simple or extravagant, it doesn't matter. The idea is to take some time to focus on you.

One of my friend's mom is known for saying (among other things) that, "Charity begins at home, then spreads abroad." When you begin with truly loving yourself, imperfections and all, you open up the possibility of unconditionally loving those around you. As my old elementary school principal, Ms. Wilson use to say, "Good, better, best.  Never let it rest, 'til the good get better and the better gets best!"
